Britain's Got Talent selects the Babbacombe Theatre

The Britain’s Got Talent production team have been auditioning the talent at the Babbacombe Theatre for the next series being aired in 2016. Having been surprised to hear that there was still a theatre producing variety shows- they said, they had to come and see for themselves what talent we had here in the Bay.

Also having had three pervious head lining acts that have wowed audiences on the Babbacombe boards going on to reach the BGT finals, the producers were keen to see if one of the current performers could  make that number four in 2016!

Colin Matthews, the Managing Director of Matpro Limited, owns and operates the popular venue and with next year being his 30th year at the theatre, says, “I actively seek out new and versatile performers for my productions which, together with my youth policy, has resulted in the discovery and development of young local talent.  Many have gone on to achieve success nationally and in the West End. I feel proud for every one of them.  Having a winner of BGT going on to perform at the Royal Variety Show would be marvellous”.

Paul Burling, comedy impressionist, Steve Hewlett, ventriloquist and Danny Posthill also a comedy impressionist, all not only won the hearts of the judges but also of the British public when they hit the TV screens of the nation!

On Wednesday and Thursday the 2nd & 3rd of September, auditions were held  at the Babbacombe Theatre for  cast members  past & present who wanted to showcase their talent with a view to being selected to reach the judges audition stage.

Those that auditioned were Stephanie Blackler, Bella Voci a crossover vocal trio with Keedie, Lisa Walker & Eloise Cole, Paul & Gracie Cobley, Paul has appeared in no less than 13 shows and this season his 7 year old daughter joined the cast as part of Kidz & Co. There are four teams of four girls that make up Kidz & Co, others that auditioned from the junior cast were Liberty Edwards, Kiara Banks & Darbi Faint who did an Andrews Sister act, Ellie Doherty danced, her sister Ellie did a song and dance duet with Alice Boylan and Carys Rowland performed a song and dance solo that won her a Gold Medal as she achieved first place at the All England National Dance finals in London earlier this year. Richie Lee and Damien James who are in the current show on Thursday nights, Music of the Night did solo auditions, both in completely different styles, Classical and rock respectively. We welcomed back to the stage after a short break from performing at the theatre, the Miller Brothers, Patrick & Matthews who many may know as they busk locally across the region and Atlanta Vowden who won Torbay’s Got Talent and went on to appear in several shows over a three year period.

So people of South Devon, these talented acts are all local to the Bay so if you see them on your screens, you know who to get behind and vote for! However, the audition process is a long one so in the meantime you can enjoy watching them in the 5 star shows at the Babbacombe Theatre.
