Beer On Tap at BABBACOMBE THEATRE for one night only!Posted: 9th May 2013
Britain may be staring into the bottom of an empty pint glass, but don’t lose hope – Al Murray The Pub Landlord is back to fill it up again, with a brand new show of epic proportions.
His sell out show at Babbacombe Theatre, on Torquay’s beautiful Babbacombe Downs on Friday 10th May, may be a little different for Al and for the 600 strong audience, as the venue is renowned for being one of the only ‘Dry’ theatres in the country.
Having been built originally as a concert hall in 1939, the building has never had a bar facility and because of building restrictions, has not ever been able to add one. Imagine the notoriety – a pub landlord with no Ale?
Colin Matthews, the owner of the venue and Martyn Strange of the Babbacombe Inn, have got their heads together and will ensure Al will have beer on tap! Martyn has secured a licence and a temporary bar will be set up to the side of the venue and beer will be served, by bar man Darren, suitably attired in the Pub Landlords instantly recognisable, red blazer, serving Fosters, (who sponsor comedy) before, during and after the show.
The mobile pub will be aptly named - ‘Al’s Bar’. Serving Fosters Lager, John Smiths smooth, Strongbow Cider and Guinness, Fitted chilled refrigerators offering Smirinoff Ice, Barcardi Breezers, Water Coke and Diet Coke all in plastic bottles. Spirit optics @ 25ml & 50 ml with Barcardi, Smirnoff, Bells and Jack Daniels etc.
Audience members, for the first time in the history of the theatre will be able to sup their ale on site and raise a glass (albeit a plastic one) as they cheer and applaud one of the country’s comedic heroes.
If you haven’t already got your order in then unfortunately time has been called as the show has sold out.
However, if you need a top up this season you can log on to Al’s website for details of other venues he is playing during his 2013 tour- www.thepublandlord.com
