Torbay's Got Talent 2010

After three years of success stories Torbay’s Got Talent” will be once again taking to the stage at the Babbacombe Theatre, Torquay.

This is a superb opportunity for performers to showcase their talent to the theatre going public in the region, albeit holidaymakers have in previous years come along to voice their support and have enjoyed what talent the South West has had to offer.

This competition is open to professional artists as well as amateurs and aspiring performers whether they are singers, dancers, comedians, impressionists, jugglers, magicians, contortionists, acrobats, escapologists, musicians, animal acts or ventriloquists. They can be a solo act, double act, trio, quartet, or part of a choir, in fact anyone who can entertain, win the judges over and get the audience vote to secure a place in the final, could walk off with the title.

Several of last years finalist went on to enjoy successes in different fields, with no less than four of them securing contracts at the Babbacombe Theatre.

Holly Cosgrove ( picture supplied by courtesy of Pyramid Torbay appears on this article), starred in the Christmas Cracker last year and received much acclaim for her performance; she has just recently negotiated a contract to star in a principal role in the 2011 seasonal show at the popular venue. The first runner up Louis Nayler also secured a summer season and he has been wowing audiences since February and has proven to be a hit with the audiences, week in and week out with his superb vocal ability and his sprightly dance moves. Second runner up, eight year old Lily Laight along with finalist Millie Day both joined the troupe of ‘Kids Aloud’ and they have both proven their worth in more ways than one and both girls have been offered other work and received several accolades in acknowledgement of their talents.

Although, not placed, Tony Pearn, who did get into the top six, was featured earlier this year on Britain’s Got Talent, albeit using his stage name Tony Spinner and he is now working extensively across the south coast.

One name from Britain’s Got Talent this year that you will recognise, although he didn’t compete in last season’s TGT, he had performed a summer season when he was just starting to make a name for himself, finalist, Paul Burling. We are sure he will be picking up a television show from his successful appearances and like so many artiste who have performed on the Babbacombe stage, now boast success on London’s West End stage and appear nationally, internationally in all aspects of the entertainment industry.

The prize pot generated a lot of interest last season and this year’s package will ensure the winner has everything necessary to raise their profile within the entertainment industry. Not only will they win a contract to appear at the Babbacombe Theatre, a photographic portfolio from Pyramid Photography, as well as a professionally produced 10-minute DVD show reel by Horizon Multimedia but donated by Torbay Council a cash prize of £250. There will also be cash prizes awarded to the runner up £150 and for the act placed third, £100.

Sponsored by the Torbay Council, Heart Radio and the Herald Express, judges from each organisation along with Colin Matthews the Producer and Director for the Babbacombe Theatre, will judge the heats as well as the final.

To stage the competition acts of all ages, styles and genres are invited to enter. If you, or you know of anyone who would benefit from winning this contract and superb opportunity to kick start a career in the world of show business refer to our News article for the entry form.

With the South West boasting so many talented people, this event will not only prove that fact but it will also go a long way to keeping the regions live entertainment venues in business!
